What does a TIF to PNG converter do?
A TIF to PNG converter turns a TIFF image (.tif or .tiff), the format scanners, fax software and print shops often use, into a PNG that browsers and phones open directly. Most browsers cannot show a TIFF at all, so converting it to PNG is the quickest way to view, share or upload a scan without losing detail.
How to convert TIF to PNG
- 1Drop your .tif or .tiff file on the box above, or click the box to choose it.
- 2The converter reads the TIFF on your device and shows the PNG.
- 3Click Download PNG to save it. Pick JPG under Save as if you need a smaller file.
TIFF or PNG for scans?
Both are lossless for 8-bit images. TIFF can also hold several pages, 16-bit colour and print data; PNG holds one image and works everywhere on the web. Keep the TIFF as your archive copy, and use the PNG for email, sharing and websites.
Questions
Is TIF the same as TIFF?
Yes. .tif and .tiff are two extensions for the same format, and both work here.
What happens with a multi-page TIFF?
You get one PNG of the largest image in the file, which is normally the main page. Pages are not split into separate PNGs.
Which TIFF files might not convert?
Most scanner, fax and camera TIFFs convert. Rare compression types and some 16-bit or 32-bit scientific images may not; in that case the tool shows an error message.
Is my TIFF uploaded anywhere?
No. Your browser reads the TIFF with utif, an open-source decoder, and makes the PNG on your own device. The file is never sent to UpAgents or anywhere else, so it works on private files too.
