What does MP4 to PNG do?
MP4 to PNG saves one frame of a video as a still image. You pause or scrub the video to the moment you want, then save that frame as a PNG at the video's full resolution. PNG is lossless, so the still keeps every pixel of the frame your browser decoded, with no extra compression.
How to save a frame from an MP4 as a PNG
- 1Drop your MP4 on the box above, or click the box to choose it.
- 2Play the video, then pause or scrub to the exact frame you want.
- 3Click Save this frame as PNG. Each saved frame gets its own download link, so you can save as many as you need.
PNG or JPG for video stills?
Use PNG when you need the sharpest still, for a thumbnail, a slide or a frame you plan to edit, because PNG adds no compression of its own. Use JPG when a smaller file matters more. Either way, a still can only be as sharp as the video it came from.
Questions
What resolution is the PNG?
The video's own resolution. A 1920 x 1080 video gives a 1920 x 1080 PNG.
Why won't my video play?
The tool uses your browser's built-in video decoder. MP4 files in H.264 play in every major browser; HEVC (H.265) files do not play in every browser. If you see an error, try another browser.
Does it work with other video formats?
WebM and MOV files work too, when your browser can play them.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. Your browser plays the video and captures the frame on your own device. The file is never sent to UpAgents or anywhere else, so it works on private files too.
